16 – 24 and unemployed
Are you currently unemployed in united kingdom? if so is this because you are in full time education? it is a lot harder for young people to get a job in the united kingdom. is it because we want a good life so we decide to go to college and then university but where does all that hard work get us at the very end. Are we
guaranteed a job after university. what i am going to talk about is what is available for people our ages, what its doing to us financially and how are we suppose to find a job.

In today’s
society it’s very hard to find a job at the ages of 16 -24 this is either
because they have just came out of school, college and university and have no
experience in what some companies expect. If you’re a 16 year old it’s harder
to find a job and this is because you are only limited to certain jobs due to
your age. When you’re 18 years of age you’re an adult and can work as anything,
by anything I mean jobs such as working in an environment with Alcohol,
cigarettes and in a warehouse. You can only be 18 to work in these environments
because to buy Alcohol and cigarettes you have to be 18 it’s the law. 16 year old are limited to what factory work they can do, I know from past
applications I have sent in when I was 16 and 16 year old are not allowed to
work in some factories because it’s to do with the health and safety act. The
fact that 16 year old are limited to what they do is not fair because 16 year old won’t be given the chance to gain experience in that sort of category. There are
lots of opportunities to do work experience but the fact is that some 16 year old won’t want to do this as the majority of the time you don’t get paid for
it. Yeah ok it’s for the experience but you’re not guaranteed to get a job at
the end of it. So then it’s back to looking. I see where people are coming from
though with the whole it’s the experience but people won’t want to work for
nothing when they aren't going to get anything back. This is one of my sayings
I use a lot ‘‘it’s not what you know, it’s who you know’’ I honestly think this
is too true because I got a job because I knew the people, but its so hard to
even get a job these days because people they know will get first chance.
University students
are finding it hard to even find a job but the government want them to go out
and start from the bottom and work their way up again, why should they have to
considering how much they have paid to even go to university. It is £9000 a
year to study at university over the 3 years you are expected to leave university
with the debt of £38.000. School Leaver
When you come to the leaving age of school you are given a decision in what you want to do after, whether this is college, apprenticeships, Full time job or even sixth form/A Levels. In the United Kingdom there is now a law been set for people that are in education have to stay in education till they turn 18. We are quite lucky that we get free education in this country, this is because it allows us to go to college for free and get the education we want to make a career. For people that don't want to go to college and just want to go out and get a job its hard as they have no experience in certain parts in the working industry. To get a job in retail, you need experience in retail, cash handling and also customer service. Getting a job in a factory/Warehouse these days are hard as well as some factories/Warehouses want a reference from a factory based job. School leavers will find it hard to get a job in a factory/Warehouse as the majority of factory/Warehouse jobs are for 18+ these is due to health and safety. So what is there for you school leavers that want to go out and get a job well there isn't anymore as like i said before you have to stay in education till your 18, its the law but you do have the chance to get a part time job that fits around what you are studying. this could include jobs such as working at your local cinema, dog walking, babysitting, local corner shop, paper round and shelf stacker. The other possibility for school leavers is going into an apprenticeship from your local college, there are loads of apprenticeship vacancies available in the united kingdom and its a good opportunity to go on one this is because you gain experience in the working world. Some apprenticeships that are available are only to 18+ year olds and this is because of legal reasons so make sure you check when applying for an apprenticeships. The website for apprenticeships is www.apprenticeships.org.uk so if you are looking for apprenticeships check your local colleges and checkout the website.
